Our History

SOMRAF United States established to provides a helping hand to bring hope, workable solutions, and opportunities to the lives of thousands of refugees. As Somalia became most dangerous state for minorities. Somali minority communities which are straggling for their civil rights considered top of the list of countries where minorities are most at risk of genocide, mass killings or violent repression (MRG report: People under threat).

SOMRAF is a community-based organization established to respond to the needs of a growing Somali community in Minnesota and the United States . It works locally, regionally, and nationally.
SOMRAF's program of public education seeks to increase awareness within the wider community and among mainstream organizations about issues of concern to the newcomer community in general and African refugees and immigrants in particular. As a national voice, SOMRAF brings an African perspective to issues that affect African refugees here and in Africa, such us the prolonged conflict of Somalia .



Somali is without central government for two decades, a huge number of internal people are displaced and the refugees are fleeing and escape from political strife, persecution, and war. Nearly all have endured enormous physical hardship and emotional traumas. For many, hardship is a part of life, and suffering, abysmal. Yet the desire to seek a better future and the dream for a better life perseveres.

The challenges faced by disadvantaged people inside Somali communities and inside United States , will require to develop consensually programs that respond to the needs of newcomers to the country and to increase awareness about refugee and newcomer issues at home and abroad. Their socio-economic problems inside USA that have an impact on them from socio-economic problems of Somalia and modalities can be mapped out subsequently to provide them with adequate assistance.
